The Kabaka Foundation in partnership with Heifer International Uganda is setting up a solar-powered model farm in Bukalango to showcase the productive use of solar energy in agriculture, featuring applications like irrigation, refrigeration, and lighting. Having completed land preparation for horticulture and installed a solar-powered water supply and irrigation system, upcoming activities include technical training for solar technicians and installation of solar-powered cold storage. Meanwhile, community sensitization sessions are ongoing to educate farmers on the benefits of solar energy in agricultural value chains. The farm will serve as a center of innovation and learning, aiming to improve productivity and household incomes for 500,000 people, with an official launch scheduled for July 2025.
